Sri Lanka vs Scotland Warm UP Match at Barbados
SL vs SCL Warm-Up: Sri Lanka outwit Scotland
Mar 05, 2007
Scotland battled hard but suffered defeat by a predictably wide margin in their World Cup warm-up match against Sri Lanka in Barbados. Craig Wright's men managed some good moments but lost by 159 runs. Sri Lanka were made to work for their 294-7, an innings featuring good knocks from Kumar Sangakkara (81), Sanath Jayasuriya (77) and Upul Tharanga (70).
But once Scotland had lost three early wickets, there was little doubt they would fall well short of the target. They were all out for 135 in 41.2 overs.
Pre-Match Report: Scotland's first World Cup warm-up match against Sri Lanka in Barbados was delayed by half an hour on Monday following heavy overnight rain.
Umpires Simon Taufel and Ian Howell decided the surrounds were too wet for a prompt start, but the intention was still to play a full 50-overs-a-side match. There were few surprises in either line-up, Scotland keeping faith with specialist spinners Majid Haq and Glenn Rogers at the expense of pace bowler Paul Hoffmann. Sri Lanka were able to name what looked a full-strength side too. Scotland found themselves in the field, after Mahela Jayawardene won the toss and chose to give his batsmen first use of the 3Ws Oval pitch.
