Habibul Bashar scored an unbeaten 57 in a seven-wicket win over Scotland and Bangladesh finished World Cup warmup matches 2-0 after its earlier upset over New Zealand.
Bashar won the toss and sent Scotland into bat at the 3Ws Oval on Thursday, then Abdur Razzaq took three wickets as Scotland slumped from 73 for two to finish its 50 overs at 152 for nine. Bangladesh lost quick wickets in a short pre-lunch session to seven for two. After Aftab Ahmed retired hurt on 19 with the total at 33, Saqibul Hasan (45) and Bashar combined in a 75-run for the fourth wicket, guiding the Tigers to victory with 15 overs to spare. Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore said it was a decent, and expected, performance following the upset over New Zealand. Bangladesh takes on 2003 finalist India in its opening Group B match at Trinidad on March 17. Scotland, with losses against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh this week, faces two-time defending champion Australia in its opening Group A match at St. Kitts on March 14. Scotland captain Craig Wright said he was disappointed with his lineup's batting in both warmup matches. Earlier Scotland faltered badly against Bangladesh spin and mustered only 152 for nine in their World Cup warm-up match at Barbados. An encouraging start saw Scotland move to 73 for two after 23 overs - but little went right for them thereafter, as Abdur Razzak (three for 24) and his fellow slow left-armers Mohammad Rafique and Saqibul Hasan put the squeeze on. Pre-Match Report: Buoyed by a stunning two-wicket victory over New Zealand, Bangladesh will be confident of finishing their World Cup preparations undefeated when they face Scotland in a warm-up match on Thursday. The sub-continent team beat the Kiwis thanks to a stunning all round display by tail-ender Mashrafe Mortaza, who took four wickets before plundering three sixes in a whirlwind 30 from 14 balls to overhaul New Zealands total of 226. Along with Bangladesh, Zimbabwe will be the only other recognised team in action on Thursday as the six minor nations in the tournament temporarily take centre stage. Cricket World Cup Quotes.. I fully expect us to win every game we play, it doesn't matter what the make-up of the team is. Ricky Ponting, Australian skipper. Is this a resignation issue? I'll have to talk with my superiors on that. former New Zealand captain and Match referee Jeff Crowe on the blunder by him and the umpires which caused the farcical scenes at the end of the World Cup final. I guess it was nice to finish off with a catch behind with Gilly. McGrath on Gilchrist catching Arnold to give him his last ODI wicket. He is the tournament's leading wicket-taker with a record haul of 25 wickets and the most successful World Cup bowler of all-time. It was really pleasing to do it on an important day. I've been getting a lot of starts but hadn't converted. Adam Gilchrist who smashed a final record 149 off 104 balls to set up the victory. It was simply a brilliant innings from Gilchrist, unfortunately I was the opposition captain watching it. Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene about Adam Gilchrist's 149 off just 104 balls. My learned commentary is, my commentary is congratulations to Ricky and the boys, but to Glenn McGrath, that lanky bloke from Narromine, thanks for a wonderful contribution to Australian cricket.
