Pakistan vs Ireland ICC World Cup Cricket Match 2007

Group D, Match 2, PAK vs IRL: Ireland send Pakistan crashing out

Pakistan Cricket team Ireland Cricket team Ireland produced one of the greatest victories in cricket's rich history by beating Pakistan on St Patrick's Day amid unbelievable tension in Jamaica. Led by their brilliant wicket-keeper batsman Niall O'Brien, they reached a rain-adjusted target of 128 with three wickets remaining in near darkness. Ireland's fans, who had been there to witness the tie against Zimbabwe, could barely contain themselves afterwards. The result means Pakistan, ranked fourth in the world, are already out. Wicket-keeper O'Brien, axed by Kent in 2006 because they rate Geraint Jones above him, hit a brilliant 72, easily the best effort by any of the batsmen on a green wicket which Ireland's seamer loved.

Group D, Match 2, PAK vs IRL: Pakistan under pressure

Pakistan Cricket team Ireland Cricket team Pakistan will be under pressure to deliver a clinical performance against Ireland in Saturday's Group D match at Sabina Park, because if they lose they are almost certainly out of the World Cup.
After the opening-day loss to hosts West Indies and after Ireland's tie with Zimbabwe, Pakistan are desperate for the two points that come with victory. Pakistan have been prone in the past to the odd controversial defeat, like the reverse to Bangladesh at Northampton in the 1999 World Cup but the team will know the seriousness of this match against the Irish. Ireland proved in their first match against Zimbabwe, which was thrillingly tied, that they are not in the Caribbean for a Calypso party they are here to compete and Pakistan will need to be on their A game. Pakistan Team (from): Inzamam-ul-Haq (Captain), Azhar Mahmood, Danish Kaneria, Imran Nazir, Kamran Akmal (Wicket Keeper), Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Sami, Mohammad Yousuf, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Rao Iftikhar, Shoaib Malik, Umar Gul, Yasir Arafat, Younis Khan.
