Group C, Match 1, KEN vs CAN: Kenya beat Canada by 7 wickets
Chasing 200 for a win, Kenya was 192 for three after 42 overs against Canada in a Group C encounter at St Lucia on Wednesday.Kenyan openers started off explosively before Anderson Cummins struck to draw first blood as he snared David Obuya for 4 runs. Following Obuya's exit, Shah joined Ouma at the crease. The duo put on a brief 24-run stand for the second wicket before Shah was trapped in front by Bhatti for 6 runs. This brought skipper Tikolo to the crease. Ouma smashed a timely half century to steady the Kenyan innings, which included six boundaries and one hit across the fence.
Just when it seemed that the Kenyans were running away with the game, Dhaniram struck to give Canada a much needed breakthrough as he dispatched Ouma for 58 runs. Put in to bat by Kenya skipper Steve Tikolo, Canada was bowled out for 199 in their stipulated 50 overs. Reported Earlier: Kenyan captain Steve tikolo won the toss and elected to field against Canada in the battle of the minnows. Kenya and Canada's cricket teams undertook some last minute preparations ahead their clash in Group C's opening match.
Rank outsiders Kenya and Canada will both be relying on some solid World Cup experience when they clash in Group C's opening match on Wednesday. Kenya captain Steve Tikolo is 35 and played in the last three World Cups, including their amazing run to the semi-finals in 2003.
