Zimbabwe Cricket Team Profile
The Zimbabwe Cricket Team is the national cricket team of Zimbabwe, and has been rated as the second best team in the African continent after South Africa. Zimbabwe was elected an associate member of the ICC in July 1981, and has participated in all the ICC Cricket World Cups since then. The team played its first Test match in 1992, becoming the ninth Test playing nation in the world. Today, Zimbabwe is a full member of the International Cricket Councilwith Test and one-day international (ODI) status.Though a relatively poor performer in the international cricket, the Zimbabwean Cricket Team has a very good record in ICC Trophy tournaments, winning the trophy in 1982, 1986 and 1990. Zimbabwe Cricket Team has produced several world-class cricketers such as John Traicos, David Houghton, Eddo Brandes, Andy Flower, Grant Flower, Heath Streak and Tatenda Taibu. The wicket-keeper cum batsman Andy Flower was at one point rated the best batsman in world cricket.
Zimbabwe is placed in Group D in ICC World Cup 2007 grouping, along with Pakistan, the West Indies and Ireland. The team will play its first warm-up match against the world champions Australia on March 06, 2007 in Arnos Vale Stadium in St Vincent. Zimbabwe will start its 2007 World Cup campaign against Ireland on March 15, 2007 in Trelwany Stadium in Jamaica.
