Netherlands Cricket Team Profile
Known by various names, such as the Netherlands, Holland, or Dutch Cricket Team, the Netherlands Cricket Team is one of the oldest cricket teams in the world, but surprisingly without a permanent Test or One-day International Status, awarded by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The Netherlands Cricket Team is governed by the Royal Dutch Cricket Association, which was formed way back in 1883. The Netherlands achieved Associate Membership of the ICC in 1966, and the team has participated in all the ICC Trophy tournaments since 1979. The Netherlands cricket team finished as runners-up in 1986 and 1990 ICC Trophy tournaments, and went on to win the 2001 ICC Trophy. They defeated the UAE in the 2005 ICC Trophy to qualify for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.
The Dutch team has participated in the 1996 and 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup tournaments, and their participation generated a lot of public interest towards cricket in the country. They defeated Namibia in 2003 World Cup to record their first ODI win ever. The Netherlands has produced many outstanding cricketers, suc as the all-rounder Roland Lefebvre, Luuk van Troost and Ryan ten Doeschate. Luuk van Troost is the captain of the Netherlands 2007 World Cup squad, while Peter Cantrell is the coach of the team.
