Scotland ready to be brave

Scotland can advance to the Super 8 second round of the World Cup, manager Euan McIntyre said on the team's arrival in Barbados today.
"We have a dream and we believe we can defeat one of the major teams and gain a place in the second phase of the World Cup," he said. Scotland is in Group A with the world's top-two teams, South Africa and defending champion Australia, plus the Netherlands. "In World Cup events there are always upsets and shocks and we believe we can spring one. "We are under no illusions. We know it will not be easy, but we plan to fight hard, really hard and give it our best shot." said McIntyre
Scotland qualified by winning the 2005 International Cricket Conference (ICC) Trophy, and McIntyre said it is here on merit. "I believe if you don't give the lower teams a chance we will never see the game grow across the globe," he said. "When we play in the cricket World Cup we have something to look forward to. It gives us a chance to lift our game and we will see a rise of the game in Scotland." Scotland will be based in St Kitts, but will play warm-up matches at Three Ws Oval against Sri Lanka next Monday, and Bangladesh on Thursday week.

Scotland name World Cup squad

Scotland's cricket selectors have named an unchanged side for next month's cricket World Cup in the Caribbean following a successful build-up in Kenya over the last few weeks.
The 15 players who originally set out on the five-week tour to Sharjah, Mombasa and Nairobi have been invited to travel to Barbados and St Kitts to take part in the one-day tournament. "We went to Kenya with two aims, first to qualify for the Twenty20 world championship and also to inflict a first defeat on the host country," said national team coach Peter Drinnen. "We achieved both these objectives, and it is therefore no surprise that we are endorsing the entire squad for the World Cup itself." Scotland open their campaign in St Kitts against Australia on march 14, then play South Africa on march 20 and the Netherlands four days later.

Scotland team : Craig Wright (Captain), Ryan Watson (Vice-Captain) John Blain, Dougie Brown, Gavin Hamilton, Majid Haq, Paul Hoffmann, Douglas Lockhart Ross Lyons, Neil Mccallum, Dewald Nel, Navdeep Poonia, Glenn Rogers, Colin Smith, Fraser Watts.
