Simmons appointed as Ireland cricket coach

The Irish Cricket Union today confirmed the appointment of Phil Simmons as its new national coach. He will replace Adrian Birrell, who steps down as coach after the World Cup.
His contract is for a period of just more than two years, up to the conclusion of the 2009 ICC Trophy, which is being held in the UAE in April 2009. The former West Indies international played in 26 Test matches and 143 One Day Internationals, and was coach of the Zimbabwe team in 2004-5.
Ireland name unchanged squad for Cricket World Cup

Ireland have confirmed an unchanged 15-man squad for the Cricket World Cup, which starts in the West Indies next month.
The 15 who played in the recent World League in Kenya have all been retained. Ireland will be led by Australian-born Trent Johnston and also include Middlesex batsman Eoin Morgan and Northamptonshire wicketkeeper Niall O'Brien. Ireland World Cup Squad: T Johnston (Captain), K McCallan, A Botha, J Bray, K Carroll, P Gillespie, D Langford-Smith, J Mooney, P Mooney, E Morgan, K O'Brien, N O'Brien (Wicket Keeper), W Porterfield, B Rankin, A White.
