The match was one of several warmups in advance of the cricket World Cup, which opens March 11. Bermuda won the toss and electing to bat first, made 206 for eight in its 50 overs, with Canadian opening bowler Umar Bhatti taking four wickets. Canada then went to bat, reaching the victory target of 207 in the 44th over at the expense of seven wickets. Samad, named man of the match, hit nine fours and one six before being judged leg-before wicket. Canada's first game at the World Cup is March 14 against Kenya in Saint Lucia. New Zealand-based batsmen Ian Billcliff and Geoff Barnett are two of the notable inclusions in Canada's 15-man squad for the World Cup announced on Wednesday.
The Canadians kept 13 of their 15-man squad that competed in the World Cricket League tournament in Kenya recently, opting to drop all-rounders Don Maxwell and Sandeep Jyoti. Ever blossoming batsman Ashish Bagai - player of the series for the World Cricket League - will vice-captain the team while Jon Davison retains his roles as skipper. Canadian coach Andy Pick told Cricinfo; "it is a fairly well balanced squad. I am deeply sorry for Don Maxwell. The makeup of the squad was likely to dictate that two players who were in Kenya would miss out. I believe this is a reflection on the strength of Canadian cricket that there are 17 or 18 players who could expect to be very close to the squad." Canada face a tough time in this, their third World Cup. Sharing a pool with Kenya, England and New Zealand won't be easy.
