Bermuda Cricket Team Profile
Cricket is the national sport of Bermuda and the country has a very long tradition of this game. The Bermuda cricket team is an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since 1966. Cricket is a passion for Bermudians, who are eagerly waiting to see their team play against world's top ranking teams in the forthcoming 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup in the West Indies. Bermuda has been grouped in Group B, along with India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and will play its first world cup match against Sri Lanka on March 15, 2007 at Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago. Bermuda has qualified for the first time to play in an ICC Cricket World Cup. Clay James Smith is the captain of the Bermuda cricket team, while Gus Logie, the brilliant former wicketkeeper of the West Indies, is the coach of the team.
The Bermuda cricket team has participated in 7 ICC Trophy competitions since becoming Associate Member of ICC in 1966. The team reached up to semi-finals in ICC Trophy 1970 and were runner-up in ICC Trophy 1982. The dream moment for the Bermuda cricket team and its fans came on July 7, 2005 when they qualified for the 2007 ICC CWC in the West Indies. The Bermudian Cricket Team has received the official One-day International (ODI) status from January 01, 2006 untill the 2009 ICC Trophy. The team is scheduled to play several ODI's in 2006 and 2007 before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007. Bermuda is placed in Group B of the ICC World Cup 2007 groupings, along with India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The team will play its first World Cup match against Sri Lanka on March 15, 2007 in Trinidad and Tobago.
